Nueva línea de metro de Londres

Diapositiva 1 de 6: Two of the eight tunnel boring machines (TBMs) required to construct Crossrail were manufactured in Germany and deployed to dig the Thames Tunnel section of the route. Each machine cost around 10 million pounds and operated for 24 hours a day, requiring a team of 20 people to function. One TBM only covers 100 meters a week.
Dos de las ocho máquinas perforadoras, con un precio de unos 11.227 millones de euros cada una, son de fabricación alemana. Cada una tarda aproximadamente una semana en excavar 100 metros de túnel bajo el río de Londres. Cada megamáquina de estas necesita 20 trabajadores para su operación, 24 horas al día.
Diapositiva 2 de 6: Representatives from 50 different capital cities and infrastructure organizations have visited London to understand how London has raised 14.8 billion pounds to build the new line. There is also interest in how the project has been pulled off from a engineering point of view, with this new station at Stepney Green in east London built just meters from a popular urban soccer field.

UN DESAFÍO TÉCNICO Y FINANCIERO

Representantes de 50 ciudades de todo el mundo vinieron a Londres para descubrir cómo los londinenses lograron financiar 11 mil millones de euros para una nueva línea de metro. Pero los expertos también estaban interesados en estudiar la tecnología empleada por los británicos, no solo en la construcción adyacente a un campo de fútbol en Stepney Green.
Diapositiva 3 de 6: Two years of meticulous planning allowed engineers to tunnel through the optimal route. This included tunneling over or under existing London transport systems on 26 occasions. In total there is now 42 kilometers of new tunnels in the network, each seven meters in diameter. This tunnel at Liverpool Street station will become a major interchange with two other lines.

UNA RUTA COMPLICADA

Después de dos años de planificación, los ingenieros pudieron determinar la ruta óptima. Los túneles ya existentes debían ir por debajo o cruzarse en 26 puntos. Al recorrido se sumaron 42 nuevos kilómetros de túnel, cada uno con un diámetro de siete metros. La parada de la estación de Liverpool se convierte ahora en una importante estación de metro que conecta tres líneas.
Diapositiva 4 de 6: The Queen has already visited the Bond Street station site of the line that will be named after her. Some sections of the line will open in May 2018 with the line completely open in December of the same year. The line is funded by a combination of tax revenue, ticket fares and London businesses.

APORTES DE LOS CONTRIBUYENTES Y EL SECTOR PRIVADO

La Reina ya visitó la parada de Bond Street, la línea que llevará su nombre. Tramos de esta ruta se abrirán en mayo de 2018, y a partir de diciembre funcionará por completo. El dinero para esta ruta proviene de ingresos fiscales y ventas de pasajes, así como de aportes del sector privado.
Diapositiva 5 de 6: Around 200 million passengers a year will use the new line and there will be 10 new stations along the route, including this one at Canary Wharf, the first new station to be completed. The journey time from Canary Wharf, in the east, to Heathrow, in the west, will be 40 minutes — cutting 27 minutes off the existing journey time.

VISIÓN DE FUTURO

Se estima que aproximadamente 200 millones de pasajeros al año utilicen la nueva ruta, en la cual se construyeron diez nuevas estaciones, como la de Canary Wharf, la primera en terminarse. Entonces, el trayecto entre Wharf en el este de Londres, y el aeropuerto de Heathrow, en el oeste, llevará 40 minutos. Ahora son 67 minutos.
Diapositiva 6 de 6: The 250 meter long Canary Wharf station was built 18 meters below the bed of West India Quay dock. The entire station is surrounded by water and has a 310 metre-long timber lattice roof, covering a roof garden. Over 40 million people currently pass through the station each year, with this section due to ease some of the pressure the city's transport's infrastucture is under.

UNA ESTACIÓN ACUÁTICA

La estación de Canary Wharf tiene 250 metros de larga y se construyó 18 metros por debajo del muelle de West India Quay. Toda la estación está rodeada de agua y tiene un techo con estructura de madera de 310 metros de largo. Unos 40 millones de personas pasan por Canary Wharf cada año.
